The Trump transition team has contacted Google, Microsoft, Meta Platforms, Snap, and TikTok to address online drug sales. The meeting is scheduled for mid-December, per The Information.
President Trump’s transition team and former drug czar Jim Carroll reportedly emailed five companies’ staff last week. The team wants to know the companies’ online drug policy priorities and challenges.

Trump is targeting fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that has killed thousands in the US. If Mexico and Canada fail to combat fentanyl trafficking and illegal migration, he has proposed high taxes on their goods.
Big Tech is involved in this topic before. The Wall Street Journal claimed in March that U.S. officials were investigating Meta’s Facebook and Instagram for drug profits. eBay settled a $59 million lawsuit on allegations that it sold counterfeit pill-making devices, including fentanyl-laced narcotics.
Trump said on Truth Social in November that he will launch a nationwide fentanyl awareness campaign. His government may work with internet companies to restrict online drug sales.
Google, Microsoft, Meta, Snap, TikTok, and the Trump transition team have not reacted to media inquiries about the meeting or their solutions.
The effort raises concerns about tech platforms enabling illegal drug distribution and emphasizes their role in solving the problem.
