UK: Private equity-backed leisure brand Lakeshore Leisure Group has secured planning permission to develop a new 80-acre luxury resort in North West Devon.
Clawford Lakes in Holsworthy is due to open this autumn and feature 144 lodges, nine floating lakes and a Scandinavian-inspired spa complete with swimming pool.
In addition, the resort will include 24 self-catering units, which will be available for holiday rentals or purchase for subletting purposes, as well as 17 fishing and recreation lakes, a bar and a restaurant.
The site was bought out in 2019 with funding from private equity firm Kings Park Capital.
Lakeshore Leisure’s offering includes high-quality holiday accommodation including self-catering rental cottages and lodges, hotels and privately owned lodges. As well as Clawford Lakes, it also owns locations at Otter Falls and Lakeview Manor, both in Honiton, East Devon.
Lakeshaw chief executive Stephen Twiss said: “Set in an incredible rural valley not far from the north Cornwall coastal towns of Bude and Padstow, Clawford Lakes Resort and Spa has an amazing 30 acres of lakes and is quite simply the perfect canvas to design a very special self-catering resort experience for today’s market, but with a restaurant on site, too.
“The goal of the Clawford Lakes Resort and Spa development is to create a seamless and sustainable integration of holiday accommodation within an ecologically enhanced landscape, creating a new high-quality benchmark for tourism for the local area.
“It’s just over two years ago that I first viewed the site on a very wet March day and saw the potential that Clawford Lakes had to offer. So, a huge thank you must go to Kings Park Capital and all the brilliant local people that helped secure this planning permission and put us in a position to start the build and redevelopment of a location that allows us to further support an amazing local community,” he added.
Water sport activities, such as paddle boarding, kayaking, open water swimming and canoeing, will be added to the resort’s offering in 2022.
Up to 100 jobs will be generated from the resort’s development and the company will reduce the number of second home purchases in surrounding towns and villages.
